If yo liked the first one, you will like the 2nd one. few design a new mechanic to the game that makes it unique and parkour was this games niche. well, yeah lots of games are boring if you remove the story element. This review is terrible because he admits to skipping the story and essentially just doing the boring jumping around. in the DL2 it seems this is the same for hang gliding.īut if those are the two main unlockables, i can also see why youd want to hide it behind something that actually makes it feel like an achievement.Įveryone here is bitching about how long the grind is, but of course if you had it form the start im sure many folks would get bored of traversing all the sooner, and would complain that is was too easy and boring. Once you get the grappling gun its a game changer and so much more fun. The second time playing DL1 through i must admit the grind is more noticeable.

i didnt mind the acting or storyline at all, the gameplay was incredible. The first time i played DL1 through it was super fun.

If Techland remixed the upgrade paths, I think more players might be charmed by those elements enough to forgive the parts of DL2 that really don't feel all that advanced. The stuff that makes DL2 feel like a bonafide sequel gets buried for too long in its pacing. (Withholding the crossbow for a while is something that DL2 does, for example, in a way that I think actually DOES make sense.) But I really think Techland designed DL2's upgrade system out of order. I appreciate when games tease out upgrades over a span of time, so that play styles can change and adapt as we invest in the mechanics. But the game's early chain of missions and fetch quests takes *way* too long to open up to the wider city, particularly because of how the paraglider is gated behind a plot-based unlock but also because of how long it takes to unlock some of the core upgrades in both melee and parkour/movement. It's not, but that might mean I should clarify.ĭL2 opens with your character having very few skills beyond climb-everywhere parkour and basic melee attacks: swing a melee weapon, or in a pinch, use a default "kick" button to, indeed, punt a zombie off the edge of a building if you want. Let's be careful here, as you're quoting a paraphrase as if that's what I wrote. If your main gameplay mode is effectively locked behind a poorly executed campaign, why have the campaign? Maybe in the future they'll implement a "sandbox" mode that'll let player jump straight into the meat of the game with an option to sit through a quick tutorial for new players.

Free roaming the world drop kicking zombies off of buildings.Ĭore gameplay shouldn't take the player 12 hours to get to.
